21. It has certainly been postited that one of the reasons for man's brain evolution is cooked food (in particular, meat). Less energy spent on digesting food meant that the brain could grow and the digestive system reduce in size (think of cows and the amount of energy spent on the digestive systems compared to brain function).

That said, it has meant in the long run that we are now clever enough to both cultivate and select food which is both easy to digest and nourishing, and meat eating and cooked foods are not the evolutionary advantages they might have been some millennia ago.

Just came across tripledoubles' earlier question and will try to respond to it now:

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on the philosophy of yin and yang and the five elements. Cooking food properly can aid the absorption of nutrients by the stomach and intestines.

Eating too much raw and cold food (including fruits and vegetables) can impair the function of the spleen. According to TCM, the spleen and stomach are important for the digesting, absorbing, and the transporting of the essence of food. They serve as the source of qi (vital energy) and blood formation.

Raw food may also contain parasites and microbes.
