Liberating Turkeys for Thanksgiving

Any ideas on how to ensure the turkeys would survive in the wild? I think a Liberation of Life ceremony just might do it. Leave it to Buddha to give me a great idea!

Even if you could return them to the wild without them being eaten they would still have trouble finding food.

How do wild turkeys survive? I have seen a peacock in Oregon who was liberated and living fine, not anywhere near its natural habitat. Why wouldn't a turkey survive?

Wild turkeys are wild!
Their ancestors haven't been selectively bred for hundreds of years for increased size and docility.
Peacocks arn't raised for meat, they arn't selectively bred so they are more easily returned to the wild.

tripledoubles - i sincerely hope that you are not planning to release a bunch of domesticated/ bred for food animals into the "wild"

as those of us who take animal welfare seriously know: doing so would be SERIOUSLY IRRESPONSIBLE

fist off i notice that you live in minnesota - what's the weather like now? what's it gonna be like in january? february? march?

where are these turkeys coming from? an indoor breeding/growing facility? have they ever even been outside? do they know how to forage for food? and if think you know these answers - ask yourself HOW you know them - have you actually seen the facility these birds are coming from? have you done any research at all?

i would suggest that instead of waiting for the Buddha, contact your local humane society, or a private(hopefully "no-kill") animal welfare facility.

get a-hold of someone experienced and discuss the best, MOST HUMANE solution for these animals.

i'm sure you mean well - realize that by releasing them you very well could be condemning them to a more savage and brutal death

Thank you twotigers for an intelligent and educated response.

i apologize - my attitude was totally out of line. i've been thinking about this all day, and for the life of me i can't figure out why i went off the deep-end here.

whatever the reason, it is unacceptable - i should have responded without the bitchy attitude.
